Delhi Cricket in crisis: Report exposes alleged mismanagement and inaction

Image
Delhi cricket finds itself embroiled in a controversy surrounding a scathing report by its own Technical Expert Group (TEG) that highlights alleged mismanagement and a “compromised and conflicted” selection process. In an attempt to improve Delhi’s performance, the DDCA formed a Technical Expert Group (TEG) in 2022, consisting of renowned cricketers like Madan Lal and Sunil Valson as per The Indian Express. However, despite their efforts, Delhi continued to struggle, failing to qualify for the Ranji Trophy knockouts for two consecutive seasons. In December 2023, a complaint was filed against the DDCA, alleging mismanagement and corruption by officials. This complaint, submitted by Avdesh Sharma, also included the TEG report as evidence. Key Findings of TEG Report: The report, submitted last March, criticizes the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) for its selection process, claiming it bypasses the chief selector and is marred by “rampant interference” from officials. ‘To penalise two isn’t correct’: Ex-India player suggests Virat & Rohit also play Ranji Trophy

Image
Former India all-rounder Kirti Azad, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has supported the BCCI on its diktat to make it compulsory for players to appear in the Ranji Trophy. But in addition, he also wants the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to also play domestic cricket. The BCCI excluded Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the list of centrally contracted players after the duo showed their reluctance to play in the Ranji Trophy. Meanwhile, ever since their Test debuts, Virat has played only one Ranji match in 2021, and Rohit also solitary match in 2015. “It (directive) is a very good move. Everybody should be playing Ranji Trophy cricket, but currently the emphasis is on the IPL. It is good, it is entertaining but the real cricket is the (five) days’ cricket. Playing in domestic cricket is good, it keeps you in touch. But whenever you are free, even if you’re a Rohit Sharma or a Virat Kohli, you should go back and play domestic cricket for the state,” said Az...

Charting Karnataka’s downfall in Ranji Trophy since Vinay Kumar’s departure

Karnataka have been going downhill over the last three years in the Ranji Trophy circuit. The team has been faltering ever since the departure of then skipper Vinay Kumar. They won the Irani Cup, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy for two consecutive years (2013-14, 2014-15). And then, the downward spiral began. It all started in 2019 when Manish Pandey replaced Vinay Kumar as Karnataka skipper. In that season, the Pandey-led side lost to Saurashtra by five wickets in the semi-finals. Saurashtra emerged victorious, with tons from Pujara and Jackson in the 2nd innings. This was still when Kumar was a part of the Karnataka squad, not as a skipper however. Bayern Munich names Virat Kohli and Manuel Neuer as cross-sports equivalents to each other

Image
Manuel Neuer and Virat Kohli are two names one will not generally utter in a single breath. Although both are legends in their own field, their fields are as far from each other as the Indian cricket team are from ICC trophies. However, Bayern Munich on Sunday named Manuel Neuer and Virat Kohli in a tweet that has got the both the cricketing and footballing worlds talking. If one really wants to draw similarities between the two legends, there are quite a few. For starters, the Indian batter is a world champion (with India in 2011) and so is Manuel Neuer (with Germany in 2014). Both are greatly valued in their respective teams, both have reinvented the game and both are continuing to set examples even at an age where other athletes think about hanging up their boots. So it is no surprise that Bayern Munich decided to name the two legends of the game in their post. But what is the context? Cricket 50 mins He deserves a trophy: Suresh Raina backs RCB and Virat ...
