Delhi Capitals on Monday cruised to their first victory of the WPL 2024 when they beat UP Warriors by 9 wickets at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Delhi Capitals were dominant with both bat and the ball. Radha Yadav starred with the ball with 4 wickets, restricting the UP Warriorz to 119. Chasing 120 runs, DC openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning scored half-centuries each to reach the target with over 5 overs to spare. The UP Warriorz struggled right from the start of the match. Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl first. UP kept losing wickets right from the start, with stars such as Tahila McGrath and captain Alysa Healy going back to the pavillion without making much of an impact. Shweta Sehrawat was the only batter from the UP team to get herself going. Sehrawat played a patient innings of 45 of 42 ball to help UP move towards a respectable total of 119 in 20 overs. Delhi Capitals were excellent on the bowling front, picking up wickets at regular intervals ...

GG vs MI: Amelia Kerr’s all-round brilliance hand Mumbai Indians 2nd consecutive win

Image
GG vs MI, Match 3:  A day to remember for New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr. The spin-bowling all-rounder put up a splendid display with both bat and ball to hand the Gujarat Giants a comprehensive 5-wicket win . After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Mumbai Indians completely dominated the Giants. Ismail and Kerr cause the Giants to err Shabnim Ismail and Amelia Kerr singlehandedly downed the Giants. The pacer from South Africa cleaned up the Top 3 (Beth Mooney, Harleen Doel, and Veda Krishnamurthy) while Kerr’s leg-spin dismantled the lower order, sending the last four players back into the hut. Having restricted GG to just 126, it seemed like the defending champions would chase the target down like a walk in the park. However, the Giants made it a bit tough after Kathryn Bryce sent Yastika Bhatia back and Tanuja Kanwar ended Hayley Matthews’ scratchy knock. Nat Sciver-Brunt was run out, and Mumbai saw themselves at 49/3. However, that’s when Kerr joined skipper Harma...

IND vs ENG: Team India and their ‘tail-ending’ saga

Image
“The villagers had no idea what was coming. They were busy with their daily chores, oblivious to the dark figure that was approaching from the horizon. The sun was shining brightly, the birds were chirping happily, and the air was calm and warm. But then, everything changed” . “The sky turned dark and ominous, as if a storm was brewing. The birds stopped singing and flew away, leaving behind a deafening silence. The villagers felt a sense of dread and fear. They knew that he had come to wreak havoc and destruction, and they had no way to stop him” . One might mistake this narrative for a passage from a clichéd horror novel, yet others would agree that it eerily parallels the arrival of England’s tailenders in the first innings of the IND vs ENG 4th Test in Ranchi. While the wicket of Ben Foakes late in the evening of Day 1 of Ranchi Test brought a beaming smile to Rohit Sharma’s face, the Indian fans were on the edge as it meant that it was time for the tailenders. And when Tom Ha...

Gayle in awe of “Phenomenal” Jaiswal, downplays Bazball influence

Image
Yashasvi Jaiswal blazing double centuries in two consecutive India vs England Tests has sparked debate about origins of his style of play, with some attributing it to England’s aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach. However, West Indies legend Chris Gayle has a different take, hailing Jaiswal’s talent and comparing him to Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Yashasvi Jaiswal Stellar Performance: The 22-year-old opener smashed 214 not out, including a record-equalling 12 sixes, powering India to a dominant win and a 2-1 series lead. His attacking style drew comparisons to England’s recent exploits under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes. Duckett’s Suggestion, Chris Gayle Rebuttal: England’s Ben Duckett jokingly suggested Jaiswal learned from them, but Gayle strongly disagreed as quoted by AFP. He emphasized that attacking cricket has been around for years, citing legends like Viv Richards and Brian Lara as examples. He credits Jaiswal’s coach and mentor Jwala Singh for shaping his style, calling him “p...

Sautner defends “Intimate” Eden Park as Aussies eye six-fest

Image
The stage is set for a thrilling T20 clash between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park, but the talk before the game is not just about the fierce rivalry. Australian journalist Adam Hawse sparked debate by calling the Auckland stadium “too small” for cricket, igniting a fiery response from Eden Park CEO Nick Sautner. Hawse’s Critique: Hawse criticized the ground’s short boundaries, claiming they favor big hitters like Australia’s Tim David and turn the game into “kiddies’ cricket.” He pointed to the 55-meter straight boundary, the smallest in international cricket, and compared it unfavorably to larger grounds like the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Sautner’s Rebuttal: Sautner countered these claims, emphasizing the “unmatched live cricket experience” Eden Park offers. He highlighted the electrifying atmosphere created by the “intimate setting” and the excitement generated by the shorter boundaries, citing past matches with high six-hitting rates as evidence. Sautner compared choos...
