Casper Ruud was the third seed in the tournament as he rose up to No.5 in the World rankings this year after impressive performances this year. Despite his seeding, Ruud was a player who has struggled on the grass courts and he registered his maiden victory in the Championships after defeating Albert Ramos Vinolas in straight sets in the first round.
However in the second round he suffered a humiliating 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 4-6 loss against Ugo Humbert, who is ranked 112th in the world to bow out from the tournament. 24-year old Humbert lost the first set 3-6 but soon improved in the second set, breaking for a 3-1 lead and again to love en route to levelling the match.
He trailed 3-0 in the third set but finding a succession of winners to claw back to 4-4 before taking it 7-5. In the fourth set, he got the key break for 5-4 and won the next game to seal the match in his favour.

However in the second round, she was dominated completely by Jule Niemer as she could only win four games and lost the match 6-4, 6-0. Jule Niemeier, who is ranked 97th in the world is making a mark on her first appearance at the Championships.

With the victory, Minnen achieved her maiden victory against a top-10 opponent in her career.
10th seed Emma Raducanu – Lost to Caroline Garcia in second round
Reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu, who made a stunning debut in front of her home crowd at the Center court in the first round by defeating Alison van Uytvanck in the first round, faced a disappointing loss on Wednesday in the second round. She suffered a 6-3, 6-3 loss against Caroline Garcia.
The 19-year-old, who rocketed to fame with her spellbinding U.S. Open triumph last year, did not play badly but had no answer to Garcia’s superior firepower. Garcia dominated the opening set as her aggressive return game and heavy serving unsettled the 10th-seeded Raducanu. She continued blazing away in the second set as Raducanu fell away.
In the second set Raducanu made a comeback by breaking 3-3, but she dropped serve immediately to hand the advantage back. Garcia then broke the Briton again to claim an impressive victory. With the victory, Raducanu has now suffered three consecutive second round defeats in Grand Slam tournaments this year.
