US Open Daniil Medvedev: After winning his first round contest in straight sets, defending champion Daniil Medvedev will take on France’s Arthur Rinderknech in the second round contest on Wednesday, 31st August. Medvedev defeated Stefan Kozlov in the first round, while Rinderknech defeated compatriot Quentin Halys in four sets. The match is scheduled to begin at 4.30 AM IST. • Defending champion Daniil Medvedev started his title defence at the US Open with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 victory over USA’s Stefan Kozlov in the first round.
• Medvedev faced some stiff challenge in the game in the second set, but the World No.1 soon started dominating as he won the last eight games consecutively to seal the game.
• The Russian will once again look to clinch a dominating victory in the second round against Rinderknech.
• Medvedev has enjoyed a good season so far on the ATP Tour and has won one title so far at the Los Cabos Open.
• He started the year with a runner-up finish at the Australian Open after losing the final against Rafael Nadal and also finished second-best at the Libema Open and Halle Open this year.
• He had his own share of injuries as well as he missed majority of the clay court season by undergoing a sports hernia surgery.
• He returned to the circuit after a two-month recovery and lost in the first round of Geneva Open. At the French Open, he bowed out from the second round after losing to Marin Cilic.
• He was unable to participate at the Wimbledon as all the Russian players were banned from the tournament.
• Just ahead of the US Open, he lost in the semifinal at the Cincinnati Masters by losing a three-setter against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

• Arthur Rinderknech made it to the second round of the US Open for the second time in his career.
• The 27-year old defeated fellow compatriot Quentin Halys in four sets in the first round of the tournament.
• The Frenchman started the year by finishing as runner-up at the Adelaide International 2 this year. At the Australian Open, he withdrew from the second round after suffering an injury.
• He returned at the Qatar Open and made it to the semifinal where he lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets.
• He then faced first round exits and Dubai Tennis Championships and Indian Wells Masters and faced second round defeat at Miami Open.
• He remained winless on clay courts this year that included a first round defeat at the French Open as he lost to Alexander Bublik in straight sets.
• He began the clay court season by reaching the second round at Stuttgart Open. He then bowed out from the first round at Wimbledon.
• He began the preparation for the US Open with a first round defeat at the Canadian Open but he managed to make a comeback and finished as runner-up at the ATP Challenger at Vancouver, where he was the third seed.

Medvedev vs Rinderknech Head-to-Head: This is the first time both the players will be facing each other on the ATP Tour. Their head-to-head record stands 0-0 currently. Medvedev enters the upcoming contest as the overwhelming favourite and he is expected to clinch a victory in straight sets.
