- Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty became the first-ever Indian pair to reach the final in the Badminton Asia Championships.
- Having already confirmed the silver, they are eyeing the historic gold medal.
- The Indian pair have dominated so far as they are yet to drop a set in the tournament.
- They began their campaign with a straight game win against Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Tan Wee Kiong.
- In the second round, the World No.6 pair secured a 21-13, 21-11 win against South Korea’s Jin Yong and Na Sung Seung to reach the quarterfinal.
- They then sailed past third seeded Indonesians Mohammed Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-11, 21-12 to enter the semifinals.
- In the semifinal, they clinched the first game and were trailing in the second game against Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin.
- The Taiwanese pair were forced to pull out of the tournament. Wang Chi Lin suffered a groin niggle and retired from the contest.
- Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi are the eight seeded pair in the tournament. They will also be in action in their first-ever final in the tournament.
- The World No.8 pair began their campaign in the tournament by facing India’s Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala in the first round.
- They lost the first game. However managed to make a comeback and clinched a 12-21, 21-16, 21-12 victory.
- In the second round, they yet again lost the first game and clinched a come-from-behind win against Japan’s Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei.
- In the quarterfinal, they dominated against top seed Fajar Alfian and Mohammad Ardianto and clinched a 22-20, 21-15 win.
- They continued their form in the semifinals too and sealed a 21-16, 26-24 victory over fourth seed Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi to enter the final.
Satwik-Chirag vs Yi-Sin Head-to-Head: Both the pairs have met six times in the tour so far. The head-to-head record between them stands at 3-3. Their last meeting came earlier this year at the Swiss Open. The Indian pair won the contest in three games.
