French Open LIVE: Rybakina vs Noskova LIVE – World No.1 Iga Swiatek will headline second round action at the French Open on Thursday, 1st June 2023. The top seed will face USA’s Claire Liu in the Round of 64. The Day 5 of the Grand Slam event will also witness Casper Ruud, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Elena Rybakina in action. Casper Ruud vs Guilio Zeppieri
Fourth seed Casper Ruud began his French Open campaign with a straight set win against Mikael Ymer. The Norwegian hopes to continue his form in the second round. He faces Italy’s Giulia Zeppieri next.
Giulia Zeppieri made it to the second round after playing in the qualifiers. He won his first-ever main draw match in his career by defeating Alexander Bublik in the first round. The Italian defeated Bublik 6-0, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. The World No.129 next faces a big test against World No.4 Ruud. Both the players will meet for the first time in their career.
Jannik Sinner vs Daniel Altmaier
Eighth seeded Jannik Sinner will face Daniel Altmaier in the second round. Sinner began his campaign in the Grand Slam tournament with a clinical 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 victory against Alexandre Muller in the first round. Sinner hopes to repeat a similar kind of show in the upcoming contest.
24-year old Altmaier is looking to enter the third round in the French Open for the second time in his career. The German began his campaign with a straight set win against Marc-Andrea Huesler. He will however face a big test against a much higher ranked Sinner. Both the players met last year at the US Open and Sinner clinched victory.
Alexander Zverev vs Alex Molcan
Alexander Zverev had to play two tie-breakers but he clinched a straight set win against Lloyd Harris in the first round. The 22nd seeded German will next face Alex Molcan in the second round.
Molcan also enters the contest after straight set win against Hugo Gasto in the first round. The unseeded Slovakian is aiming to go past the second round in the French Open for the first time in his career.
Women’s Singles
Elena Rybakina vs Linda Noskova
Fourth seeded Elena Rybakina sailed past Brenda Fruhvirtova with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the first round. She next faces another Czech in Linda Noskova in the second round. The 23-year old will play in her third successive second round contest at the French Open.
Linda Noskova was leading 6-3, 2-1 against Danka Kovinic in the first round. Kovinic soon retired from the contest citing an injury. This helped Noskova to enter the second round of any Grand Slam event for the first time in her career.
Iga Swiatek vs Claire Liu
World No.1 Iga Swiatek brushed aside her injury concernswith a dominating 6-4, 6-0 win in the first round. She will next take on USA’s Claire Liu in the second round. Yet another dominating performance is expected from the top seed.
Liu meanwhile defeated Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. It was her first-ever win in the French Open in her career. The American will be up against a real test against Swiatek in the upcoming contest.
