‘Nervous’ Mayank Yadav sizzles on debut, reveals why he ditched plan to use slow deliveries

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav grabbed eyeballs in his very first IPL game. The 21-year-old’s fiery spell was studded with deliveries over 150 kmph, including IPL 2024’s fastest delivery – 155.8 kmph. Mayank revealed that he felt nervous before the match and that he didn’t expect his debut to be so good.

“Never thought it would be such a good debut. Was nervous before the match. Tried to stick to my pace and aim at the stumps. Was thinking about using slower ones initially, but stuck to the quick ones. First wicket (Bairstow) was special. It’s good to debut at such a young age. Had a few goals, but can’t help if injuries come in the way,” Mayank Yadav.

The IPL debutant became the first Indian pacer to bowl over 150 kmph in IPL 2024. The pacer delivered a 155.8 kmph delivery to PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan. He finished his spell with figures of 3/27 at an economy rate of 6.80.
