Pakistan Hockey Federation slap lifetime ban to three players for seeking asylum in Europe
Crisis in Pakistan Hockey! Three players and a physiotherapist have been slapped with a lifetime ban by the Pakistan Hockey Federation. The reason? The four have been charged for seeking asylum in an European country without informing the Pakistan Hockey Federation. Now the PHF will make an effort being back the four and charge them with disciplinary actions.
Murtaza Yaqoob, Ihtesham Aslam and Abdur Rahman, along with physiotherapist Waqas are the four people concerned in the case. The incident took place a month prior when the Pakistan Hockey Team travelled to Netherlands and Poland to play in the Nations Cup.

“When the team returned home and we announced a training camp for the Asian Champions Trophy, the three informed us that due to domestic issues they wouldn’t be able to attend the camp,” said PHF secretary-general Rana Mujahid.
“Later we came to know that they had flown out to Holland once again on the same Schengen visas issued to the team and sought political asylum there,” he added.
Now concerns have been raised in Pakistan hockey which sees the country finding it difficult in applying for visas to foreign countries. Reports claim that the financial situation in PHF can be a major reason for the three players deciding in seeking asylum. Currently the PHF is keen on bringing the concerned players back to the country and charge them with disciplinary actions.
