5 Hits & Misses of SRH vs LSG match: Nicholas Pooran blazes through, Abhishek Sharma-Rishabh Pant flop

Ahead of the SRH vs LSG clash in IPL 2025, all the talk was about whether the home team would score the first 300+ total. Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a chance to get there with a warning: We are gonna chase down whatever they score. And, LSG did even though SRH could only manage 190/9, well below that 300 mark. But Nicholas Pooran gave SRH a taste of their own medicine with a blazing 26-ball 70, helping his side win the match by 5 wickets in just 16.1 overs.

In many ways, it was a grudge match for LSG. The last time Lucknow travelled to Hyderabad, they faced a storm. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma hammered 167-run stand, chasing down 166-run target in only 9.4 overs. That followed the infamous incident on air with Lucknow owner Sanjeev Goenka giving then-captain KL Rahul and earful. Now, LSG have their revenge, somewhat. With the Chapter II of that saga concluded, let’s look at the hits and misses of the SRH vs LSG clash on Thursday.

SRH vs LSG Hits

Nicholas Pooran

With Aiden Markram falling early, Nicholas Pooran was tasked with a demolition job. The West Indies star did not mind as he gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a taste of their own medicine. He blasted six sixes and as many fours in his 26-ball stay to score 70 runs. As Pooran smashed the fastest fifty of IPL 2025, he did not spare anyone. Pooran hammered Simarjeet Singh for two sixes and a four, Shami for a four, Abhishek Sharma for two sixes, Pat Cummins for two fours, Adam Zampa for two sixes and a four. By the time, he perished to Cummins, LSG had already scored 120 in 8.4 overs.

Mitchell Marsh

Fresh from a 36-ball 72-run knock against Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Marsh was equally destructive against Hyderabad. He smashed 31-ball 52 with the help of seven fours and two sixes. Marsh added 116 runs with Pooran in just 43 deliveries, ending any chance of an SRH comeback.

Shardul Thakur

If SRH scored below par 190/9, credit must go to Shardul Thakur. From going unsold in the IPL 2025 Auction to coming in as a replacement player and taking the Purple Cap, Shardul Thakur has redeemed himself. His IPL best 4/34 was the spell that set the tone of the match in Lucknow’s favour. Shardul Thakur’s victims in SRH vs LSG included:

  • Abhishek Sharma (6)
  • Ishan Kishan (0)
  • Abhinav Manohar (2)
  • Mohammed Shami (1)

Prince Yadav

A tape-ball bowler from Najafgarh caught the attention in Delhi Premier League. After an underwhelming performance on debut, he roared back. The 27-year-old pacer cleaned up the destructive Travis Head for 47 to tilt the match in LSG’s favour. He ended up with an economical spell of 1/29 in his four overs, conceding only two boundaries. Prince Yadav also let his hand of god do the trick as he ran out Heinirch Klaasen.

Travis Head

Barring the ball he was dismissed, Travis Head did everything right. He gave Hyderabad a blazing start even when Abhishek Sharma fell early. Head smashed 28-ball 47, laced with ive fours and three huge sixes. While he missed out on a big score, he did not disappoint. In the first match, Head scored 31-ball 67.

SRH vs LSG Misses

Rishabh Pant

A six-ball duck in the first game and now a 15-ball 15 in SRH vs LSG match, Rishabh Pant’s poor run of form continues. With 11 months left for T20 World Cup, Pant needs some big scores to keep Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel at bay. Else, he might lose the spot in India’s T20 side to either of the three. However, one aspect that Pant got right was his promise. Pant warned that whatever score SRH put up, LSG would chase that down and his side did that in 16.1 overs.

Ishan Kishan

A centurion in the first game and now a golden duck in SRH vs LSG clash, Ishan Kishan went from hero to zero in matter of four days. With couple of misfields here and there, Ishan had a poor game.

Abhishek Sharma

24 off 11 in the first game and now a 6-ball 6 in the second match, Abhishek Sharma hasn’t quite set the IPL 2025 on fire as expected. With the ball too he hasn’t had much luck. He has returned with 0/17 and 0/20 in four overs he has bowled so far. With T20 World Cup spot at stake, the youngster must be mindful of his contributions.

Adam Zampa

Not many spinners from SENA countries get the trick of IPL. Adam Zampa is one of those. The Australian leggie has had a great international career but he has not impressed in IPL barring the first season in 2016. After going for 1/48 against Rajasthan Royals at 12.00 economy rate, Zampa returned with 1/46 at 11.50 against LSG. So far, he has failed to make any impact, occupying the fourth overseas slot. With another leggie Rahul Chahar warming the bench, it won’t take long to drop him from the Playing XI.

SRH’s bowling flop show

Hyderabad would have to take a closer look at their bowling attack. Mohammed Shami is yet to find his rhythm while Pat Cummins too leaked runs. Even though SRH used six bowling options (barring Ishan Kishan), none looked convincing including Cummins. LSG chased down 191 in just 16.1 overs
