Chris Woakes suffers shoulder injury, England’s problems worsen
England’s injury troubles have just worsened on Day 1 of the IND vs ENG 5th Test. Having lost Ben Stokes to a shoulder injury, Chris Woakes suffered the same fate in the outfield at The Oval. Woakes, who featured in all 5 Tests of the India vs England series was taken off late in the day after an awkward stop at the boundary.
Chris Woakes injury scare for England
Chris Woakes has been a constant for the England bowling attack throughout the Test series. Even at the Oval, Woakes opened the attack and got the dangerous Kl Rahul out in the first session. He bowled 14 overs in bursts, with the hosts careful about his workload after a long series.
However, as fate would have it Woakes suffered an unfortunate injury. Fielding in the deep, Woakes dived to save a boundary off Karun Nair. The pacer however landed shoulder first and was in visible pain and discomfort. He was attended to by the physio and taken off the field. Woakes had his sweater as a makeshift sling, hinting a major injury for the England seamer.
The 35-year-old will now undergo tests to determine his availability for the rest of the game. England already missed out with Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes at the Oval and losing the most experienced pacer in the side would hurt their chances at The Oval.
