Rohit-Kohli comeback halted as India tour of Bangladesh set for postponement

India’s much-anticipated white-ball tour of Bangladesh in August 2025 is now staring at an inevitable postponement. While neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued an official statement of confirmation, multiple signs suggest that the six-match series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, may not go ahead as planned. This means the yearning to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in action will continue among fans as the legendary duo are available to play only the 50-over format.

Why postponement of IND vs BAN series?

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has quietly paused its media rights tender, originally scheduled to cover the entire 2025–2027 cycle. The tender process, including a USD 3,000 Invitation to Tender (ITT) document, has been deferred. Due to this, the Indian broadcasters interpret it as confirmation that the India tour is effectively off for now.

“They have informed us that there is no India series. After announcing the tender, they did not provide the ITT. They are selling, for now, only for the Pakistan series,” an Indian broadcaster told told Cricbuzz. India were due to play three ODIs from August 17 to 23, followed by T20Is from August 26 to 31. However, growing diplomatic tensions and the change in government in Bangladesh have reportedly influenced India’s reluctance to commit.

Sources suggest the Indian government has advised against bilateral engagements with neighbours deemed diplomatically strained, namely Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, participation in multilateral events like the Asia Cup remains under consideration.

The BCB, now shifting focus, plans to sell media rights only for the Pakistan T20I series (July 17–25) for now. The broader rights cycle of 49 home matches, originally offered in three global categories, has been paused for a potential reset.

As it stands, India’s tour is not cancelled, but without government clearance and a revised FTP window, a reschedule looks more likely than not. It is fascinating for Bangladesh to say that they are planning for a new window in case the August window doesn’t help BCCI pull off the scheduled series.

This is because the Men in Blue have a jam-packed calendar till January 2026. Right after that, the T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026 follow. And before that, India already plays multiple T20Is. Hence, if the India’s tour of Bangladesh doesn’t happen next month, BCB might have to wait till IPL 2026 to get over.
