Don’t want anyone’s sympathy: Ignored Prithvi Shaw’s message to naysayers after 100 post Mumbai exit

Maharashtra batter Prithvi Shaw had an impressive first outing for the side as he slammed quickfire century in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on Tuesday. The out-of-favour batter, who was dropped from Mumbai’s teams over issues of discipline, fitness and form, moved to the neighbouring team ahead of the start of the domestic season after obtaining a NOC from the MCA. Shaw sent a curt message to his naysayers following his hundred against TNCA XI.

New team, new Shaw

As per The Indian Express, Shaw claimed that no cricketer – former or present – had reached out to him during his slump. The Maharashtra star categorically stated that he expected no sympathy from anyone, noting that ‘people were busy doing their own work.’ Prithvi admitted that thinking too far ahead had cost him in the past and revealed that he had now changed his approach to taking things one day at a time.

I mean, it’s fine. I mean, I don’t want anyone’s sympathy. It’s okay. I’ve seen this before as well. I’ve got my family’s support. And my friends who were there with me when I was not really well mentally as well. So, it’s okay. People are busy doing their work. And they have their family as well. So, it didn’t bother me at all. And I was in that zone where I’m doing everything alone. And it was really good for me,” Shaw said.

Prithvi Shaw’s innings included 14 fours and a six, and smashed the opposition bowlers all around the park. The 25-year-old’s quality lied in the fact that, all the other batters struggled to reach even 20. Earlier, Sachin Dhas, Siddhesh Veer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ankeet Bawne were dismissed cheaply.

I don’t mind coming from scratch again because I’ve seen many ups and downs in my life. And I’ve been up there, I’ve been down there, I’ve come back up. So, everything is possible, I feel. I’m kind of a very confident guy, confident in myself, my work ethics. I feel, I hope that this season will go really well for me as well as for my team,” Shaw said at the end of day’s play.
