The Rajasthan Royals (RR) will have a new head coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The question is, did Sanju Samson have a role in Rahul Dravid’s leaving? And will Kumar Sangakkara replace him? Will MS Dhoni become India’s mentor for the T20 World Cup 2026? Rohit Sharma has reported to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have started a new initiative. Rahul Dravid won’t be RR’s head coach for IPL 2026. Reports had suggested that Sanju Samson wasn’t on the same page as Dravid, but was that the reason behind his exit? It doesn’t look like it. Samson could still very well leave, which suggests that Samson doesn’t have the power to call the shots.

Pre-season fitness tests are underway at the BCCI CoE. Asia Cup-bound players like Shubman Gill, Jitesh Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah checked in on August 30. India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma arrived as well despite reports suggesting he’ll reach Bengaluru in the middle of September.

Dhoni to become Team India’s mentor?

MS Dhoni has shown interest in becoming India’s mentor once again. The legendary captain held the same post on a temporary basis for just the T20 World Cup 2021. Months before the T20 World Cup 2026, he’s shown interest in the job again. This time around, he’ll be working with former teammate Gautam Gambhir.

Who will replace Dravid as RR’s head coach? Even the franchise isn’t certain at the moment. RR’s former head coach and current director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, could be seen as a viable option. RCB has announced a new initiative called RCB Cares. The franchise will provide INR 25 lakh as financial support to the families of the 11 individuals who tragically lost their lives during the Bengaluru stampede. The deadly incident occurred during RCB’s celebrations after they won the IPL 2025 trophy.

New Asia Cup match timings

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has pushed the starting time of all the night matches in the upcoming Asia Cup. The decision has been taken due to the hot weather in the UAE. This means all-night matches will start at 8 PM IST instead of 7:30 PM.
