Nitish Rana single-handedly takes West Delhi Lions to DPL 2025 trophy
Nitish Rana has done it. A succesful transfer back at his home, Delhi has transpired into a trophy as his West Delhi Lions have upstaged the in-form Central Delhi Kings. The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 final has been won by the Men in Orange, with Nitish Rana being the superstar, both with bat and ball.
Unbeaten Nitish Rana shows he’s the best
Nitish Rana has walked the talk. After his stupendous century in the Eliminator that was channelled with a fiery face-off against Digvesh Rathi, he has done it on the big stage again. In the night of the final at a packed Arun Jaitley Stadium, he chased down with flair. Losing Krish Yadav early, Nitish came and dominated the best bowling attack of the season. Simarjeet Singh, Money Grewal, Tejas Baroka, nobody had a clue about his flair.
With 174 on sights, the southpaw hit 79* off 49, including 4 fours and seven maximums. He was quite rapid at the start before taking control of the middle overs. Hrithik Shokeen played his part as well as he and Nitish stitched a match-winning partnership of 85 in just 56 balls. Purple cap winner Money Grewal went wicketless.
Nitish Rana’s men at task
Earlier, Central Delhi Kings endured a topsy-turvy ride in the first innings of the Delhi Premier League 2025 final, posting 173/7 after being pushed to the brink by West Delhi Lions’ spin attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday night.
Put in to bat, CDK struggled for runs initially. They lost two wickets inside the powerplay, and the introduction of spin made matters worse. Shivank Vashist and Manan Bhardwaj tightened the screws in the middle overs, combining for four wickets and leaving the Kings reeling at 78/6. At that point, the Lions were firmly on top, threatening to roll over their opponents in a final that had promised fireworks.
Nitish Rana, with the ball, was quite remarkable. He opened the bowling as well but gave away just 16 balls in his four overs and even took a wicket.
That was when Yugal Saini and Pranshu Vijayran turned the script around. Saini anchored the innings with a 65 off 48 balls, soaking up pressure and ensuring the scoreboard didn’t stagnate completely. But the real momentum shift came in the closing overs, courtesy of Impact Player Pranshu Vijayran.
Walking in with CDK still in trouble, he exploded at the death, smashing an unbeaten 50 off just 24 deliveries. His late assault included three sixes and four boundaries, with 16 runs coming off the final over alone. From staring at a below-par total, CDK clawed their way to a competitive 173/7 in 20 overs. It was a superb recovery that kept them alive in the contest but it all ended in agony for CDK.
