Which records can Sanju Samson break in Asia Cup 2025 final?

Sanju Samson walks into the Asia Cup 2025 final with both pressure and possibility hanging over him. The stylish Kerala batter is only 31 runs away from reaching 1,000 T20I runs, a milestone that would put him in elite company. Yet, his journey to that mark is far from simple, with his batting position unsettled and his role in the side still under debate.

Sanju Samson & his unorthodox Asia Cup

Samson has not been a guaranteed starter at this tournament. With Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill opening, he has been pushed down to No. 5, a role that has offered fewer balls to face and less clarity about his position in the XI. Still, when given time at the crease, Samson has shown glimpses of why the team management continues to back him. His half-century against Oman was scartchy but a knock that Samson needed. His 39 against Sri Lanka was far better entertaining, and even in his quieter outings he looked busy at the crease.

By hitting three sixes against Sri Lanka, Samson surged past MS Dhoni’s tally of 52 maximums in T20Is, reaching 55 sixes in just 48 innings. He has also left Rishabh Pant behind in terms of strike power. If he produces another impactful knock in the final, Samson could finish the Asia Cup as India’s most successful wicketkeeper-batter in any multi-nation T20I tournament, eclipsing Pant’s 171 runs at the 2024 T20 World Cup and Dhoni’s 154 in 2007. During the ongoing tournament, Samson has scored 108 runs in three innings, averaging 36.00 and striking at 127.05.

The challenge is massive, though. Pakistan’s attack will test Samson with pace upfront and spin in the middle overs, and he may once again walk in with only a few overs left. The last time he batted against Pakistan, Samson made
