DRS, Oct 6: Harshit Rana ‘yes man’ to Gambhir, Gaikwad-Kishan disappoint & BCCI’s Rohit Sharma problem
Questions have been raised over Harshit Rana and Dhruv Jurel’s selection in India’s squad for Australia. The BCCI will discuss Rohit Sharma at length, even after removing him as ODI captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have squandered opportunities in the Irani Cup. Controversy struck in the women’s India vs Pakistan match. Ravichandran Ashwin could cause trouble for Cricket Australia.

BCCI unsure about Rohit Sharma
Why did BCCI replace Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain? Well, it turns out the move wasn’t because they want Shubman Gill to become India’s all-format captain but because they aren’t sure about Rohit. By the 2027 ODI World Cup, he’ll be over 40. Even though he’s lost weight and passed the fitness tests, the BCCI isn’t sure if he’ll manage to stay sharp and perform.

Gambhir biased towards Harshit Rana?
Former Chairman of Selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth has lashed out at India head coach Gautam Gambhir for selecting Harshit Rana for the India vs Australia series despite poor returns in his international career so far. Srikkanth claimed that Harshit was only selected because he’s a ‘yes-man’ to Gambhir.

Toss drama in IND vs PAK match
As expected, the India and Pakistan captains didn’t shake hands during their Women’s ODI World Cup clash. But controversy still struck. After Harmanpreet Kaur tossed the coin in the air, Fatima Sana called ‘tails’, but match referee Shandre Fritz called ‘heads’ mistakenly. Fatima won the toss and then opted to chase. Had India lost the match, this decision would have come under much scrutiny.

Why Jurel over Samson?
Srikkanth also criticised the decision to select Dhruv Jurel over Sanju Samson in India’s ODI squad for the Australia series. The former Chairman of Selectors doesn’t agree with dropping players who were part of the setup before and bringing in new players. He added that such an approach will dent the confidence of players.

Ashwin to cause trouble for CA
Ravichandran Ashwin might cause trouble for Cricket Australia. The Indian spinner has been picked up for the Sydney Thunder to play in the BBL 2025-26 season. But Ashwin’s presence could be a series ‘safety risk’. It’s feared that Indian fans will flock in huge numbers to watch Ashwin train and mob him.

Gaikwad & Kishan’s wasted chance
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have wasted their opportunities to stake a claim for returning to India’s Test team. The number three spot is potentially up for grabs. But Gaikwad has failed to capitalise, scoring just 16 runs (9 and 7) in the Irani Cup. Similarly, Kishan could return as a backup wicketkeeper alongside Dhruv Jurel, but he scored just 36 runs (1 and 35).
