DRS, Nov 22: SKY takes over from Shreyas Iyer, IND vs PAK match date & who’ll replace Shubman Gill?

It wasn’t a great day to be an Indian cricket fan. Shubman Gill was officially ruled out of the Guwahati Test. India A lost to Bangladesh A. Shreyas Iyer won’t play domestic cricket anytime soon. In other news, India’s schedule for the 2026 T20 World Cup is out. BCCI has backed Gautam Gambhir, and South Africa has announced their squad for the remainder of the India tour.

Who comes in for Gill?

Shubman Gill has been released from India’s squad for the Guwahati Test. The BCCI confirmed that Rishabh Pant will take over as captain, and Gill will head to Mumbai for further assessment of his neck injury. Pant was asked about who’ll replace Gill, but didn’t reveal the name of the batter who’ll come into the team for the second Test.

India’s T20 World Cup schedule

India and Pakistan are expected to face off on February 15 in the 2026 T20 World Cup in Colombo. The co-hosts will play their opening match against the USA. At this moment, it isn’t certain whether it’ll be the tournament opener, which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

No Shreyas Iyer in SMAT

Suryakumar Yadav will captain Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The MCA had named Shreyas Iyer as skipper for the last season, but due to his injury, it’s unlikely that Shreyas will feature for Mumbai in the first half of SMAT. Suryakumar himself is expected to leave after 6 matches due to national duty.

South Africa has announced their squad for the upcoming ODIs and T20Is against India. Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the entire tour with a rib injury. Anrich Nortje and David Miller have returned to the T20I squad, while Lhuan-dre Pretorius has been dropped from both formats.

India A has been knocked out of the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Star. Facing Bangladesh A in the first semifinal, the Men in Blue lost in the Super Over. Despite a strong start by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, India A failed to chase down 195 and then scored zero runs in the Super Over.
