DRS, Dec 25: Padikkal overshadows Kishan, Rohit-Kohli magic in VHT & Shastri as England head coach?
The Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 was the talk of the town on Christmas Eve. Hundreds were in attendance, and records were broken with several big names in action. India’s captains have suffered in the ICC rankings. Ravi Shastri could return as coach. The court rejects Yash Dayal’s plea.

Ro-Ko
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struck hundreds on their VHT returns. The former remained unbeaten at 155 against Sikkim, while the latter became the record-holder for the fastest man to 16,000 runs in List A cricket. Kohli scored his 58th hundred in 50-over cricket and now needs just 3 more to get past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally.

Suryavanshi
Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed the fourth-fastest List A by an Indian against Arunachal Pradesh. The 14-year-old scored his hundred from 36 balls and ended up scoring 190 from 84. Suryavanshi has become the youngest centurion in List A history and scored the fastest 150, in 59 balls.

Dayal
Yash Dayal’s plea for bail in the alleged rape of a minor girl has been rejected. The fast bowler from Uttar Pradesh was accused of emotional blackmail and rape under the pretence of helping the alleged victim in her cricket career. If found guilty, Dayal could serve a prison sentence of over 10 years.

Kishan, chase
Ishan Kishan smashed the fourth-fastest List A hundred, but Jharkhand still lost the match. The wicketkeeper batter struck the century in just 33 deliveries. However, it still wasn’t enough. Courtesy of a hundred by Devdutt Padikkal, Karnataka chased down 413, the second-highest successful List A chase, with 15 balls to spare.

Shastri
In the aftermath of another Ashes routing, Monty Panesar has suggested Ravi Shastri’s name as the perfect candidate to replace Brendon McCullum as England’s head coach. Panesar thinks the Indian legend knows how to beat Australia, something England have failed to do time and again away from home.

ICC ranking
India’s captains have slid out of the top ten in the ICC batting rankings. Shubman Gill dropped to number 11 after missing the India vs South Africa Test series, while Suryakumar Yadav has left the top ten, dropping from 10 to 13, after spending more than 3 years there.
