Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi didn’t. A Mumbai player suffered a head injury. BCCI will announce India’s squad for the New Zealand ODI series in a week. Deepti Sharma has entered the record books. Will RCB trust Venkatesh Iyer over Devdutt Padikkal?

VHT update for Rohit-Kohli
Rohit Sharma has returned to Mumbai and ended his VHT stint. In his 2nd match, Rohit registered a golden duck against Uttarakhand. Virat Kohli has left Bengaluru as well, but he continued his golden touch, scoring 77 against Gujarat. Unlike Rohit, Kohli could play another match for Delhi as preparation for the India vs New Zealand ODI series.

India ODI squad announcement
BCCI is expected to announce India’s squad for the New Zealand ODI series on January 3 or 4. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer will be in focus. The former will play for the first time since getting dropped from the T20I team. The latter’s availability depends on recovery from a serious injury sustained in October.

RCB to bench Venkatesh Iyer?
Anil Kumble and Sanjay Bangar aren’t sure that Venkatesh Iyer will start for RCB in the IPL 2026 season. The former India coaches pointed out that RCB might refrain from changing their last year’s winning combination. Devdutt Padikkal looked great for Bengaluru and has been among the runs in the domestic season as well.
