England’s review reinstated after Alex Carey DRS blunder in Ashes 3rd Test

England cricket team were given a fresh review on Day 2 of the AUS vs ENG 3rd Ashes Test following the controversial decision involving Alex Carey on the opening day of the contest in Adelaide. The incident occurred in the 63rd over when the batter was wrongly adjudged not out even as the ball had clearly touched the bat before it settled in Jamie Smith’s hands. Eventually, Carey went on to score a century and finish his innings at 106, with the error proving to be costly for England.

England’s review reinstated after Snicko blunder

England’s review was reinstated on Day 2 of the 3rd Ashes Test, after Snicko accepted full responsibility for the blunder involving Alex Carey. Snicko claimed that an operating error was the reason behind the erroneous judgement.

Given that Alex Carey admitted he had hit the ball in question, the only conclusion that can be drawn from this, is that the Snicko operator at the time must have selected the incorrect stump mic for audio processing. In light of this, BBG Sports takes full responsibility for the error,” the company told BBC Sport.

The incident occurred in the 63rd over when josh Tongue was bowling to Carey. England made a confident appeal as the ball went past Carey’s willow and pouched into Smith’s gloves. When a review was taken, the snickometer showed no spike when the ball passed the bat but a huge spike when it was nowhere close to the willow. this prompted third umpire Chris Gaffney to ask the on field umpire to stick with his not out decision.

Later on, Carey himself admitted that he indeed did edge the ball.

Eventually, England were bowled out for 371 runs, with Jofra Archer taking a five-wicket haul. In reply, England were reduced to 59/3 at lunch on day 2.
