WPL 2026: All playoffs spots secured, Jemimah Rodrigues’ DC ensures MI miss out for the first time

WPL defending champions MI have been knocked out of this year’s tournament as DC became the third and the last team, to go to the next round, on Sunday. In the UPW vs DCW encounter, it was Jemimah Rodrigues’ team that came out on top, won by 5 wickets, and finished third in the WPL 2026 points table.

DCW make WPL 2026 playoffs

Playing in the last league match of the tournament, an unimpressive UP side could only score 122/8 in their 20 overs, which DC chased down with utmost ease, deservingly getting into the playoffs. Unfortunately, it was curtains for Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai, who fate depended on UPW vs DCW match result.

They finished fourth in the table with 6 points; three wins in eight matches. This also, in a way marks the end to their dominance, and won’t be in the WPL playoffs for the very first time. Of course they have two trophies to their name, with one being with RCB.

MIW miss out

As far as the match is concerned, DC bowlers were on top right from the very start. Chinelle Henry picked up two wickets, Marizanne Kapp bagged three, while Shree Charani also got two. Deepti Sharma opened the batting for UP and scored 24, while Simran Shaikh chipped in with 22, and Shikha Pandey contributed with 23 in 13, lower down the order.

That was never going to be enough. Laura Wolvaart (47) and Jemimah (34) ensured that there were no hiccups in this modest chase. Now, with that, DC are prime contenders for their maiden title, but first will play Eliminator on Feb 3 vs Gujarat Giants.
