DRS, March 11: West Asia war threatens IPL 2026, BCCI awards in Delhi & Gambhir’s dig at Rohit-Kohli

The West Asia conflict continues to affect international cricket and, now, franchise leagues as well. We have updates regarding the schedules of the PSL and IPL. India’s preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027 will commence shortly. The BCCI will host their annual awards in a couple of days. And did Gautam Gambhir take a dig at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?

IPL & PSL schedule update

The BCCI has finally provided an update about the announcement of the schedule for the IPL 2026 season. The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, stated that the fixture will be announced by March 12, after the dates for legislative assembly elections in 5 states are confirmed. Meanwhile, the PCB has announced the schedule for PSL 11.

World Cup planning underway for India

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir isn’t busy enjoying. In fact, he’s already thinking about the 2027 ODI World Cup. Gambhir has stated that during the IPL 2026, the selectors and coach will plan for the tournament, and a blueprint will be ready after the final takes place on May 31.

IPL 2026 under threat?

BCCI is in a jam. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas’ LPG shortage could be a cause of concern for IPL 2026. Arun Dhumal, Chairperson of the IPL Governing Council, has confirmed that the BCCI is keeping tabs on the situation. The airspace closure will cause issues for players and coaches travelling to India from the northern hemisphere.

Rohit-Kohli vs Gambhir?

Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison believes India head coach Gautam Gambhir took aim at India’s biggest superstars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, when he talked about moving on from prioritising personal milestones. Harmison wants to see what happens when the two greats return to India’s dressing room in June.

Airspace closure’s effects

The nightmare for West Indian and South African cricketers and support staff is finally over. Stuck in India since March 1 and 4, respectively, the ICC has finally been able to book commercial flights for them. However, the West Asia conflict continues to impact cricket in other ways; a series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the UAE has been postponed.

BCCI awards in Delhi

The BCCI will host their annual NAMAN Awards on March 15 in New Delhi. Since Team India has claimed 5 ICC trophies in the last 15 months, all the winners, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will be present. The awards show will be held at a hotel close to the airport, as several men’s cricketers have to leave for IPL 2026 preparations.
