Like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma is unfinished in T20s, Hitman wreaks havoc on KKR with whirlwind 78-run knock
Yesterday, it was Virat Kohli and today, it is the Hitman! Rohit Sharma has proved yet again that he is not done and dusted by no means whatsoever with yet another priceless innings in Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 opener. The opening batter, who played his first T20 since June 1, 2025, scored a whirlwind 78-run knock, proving that he is still in sublime form, despite being active in just one format apart from the IPL. While Virat proved yet again as to why he is called the chase master in the game against SRH on Saturday, Rohit too proved why he is rightly called the ‘Hitman’ on Sunday with his blitzkrieg against KKR.
Rohit Sharma isn’t finished in T20s yet
Opening the innings for MI in their run-chase of 221 runs against KKR, Rohit provided the perfect start for the side, starting his innings in an enigmatic fashion. It took Sharma just under 6 overs to get past the fifty-run mark, registering his 50th half-century in the IPL. Overall, Rohit struck 6 fours and sixes each, at a strike rate of 205.26. His whirlwind innings came to an end thanks to a spectacular catch by Anukul Roy off Vaibhav Arora’s bowling in the 12th over. But, by then, the damage had already been done, as the Hitman had stitched together a 148-run partnership off just 71 deliveries with Ryan Rickleton.

Rohit did not spare any KKR bowler, including mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. His onslaught started with Blessing Muzarabani, carried on to Vaibhav Arora before Chakravarthy too soon became his victim. Karthik Tyagi faced the maximum wrath as he was hammered for 16 runs in the 6th over where Rohit bought up his 50th fifty-plus score in the IPL as well. He scored a 23-ball fifty, firmly establishing that he was a force to be reckoned with when it comes to T20s and that he is far from being finished.
The 23-ball 50 is the quickest IPL fifty for Rohit Sharma. The previous fastest for him was 25 balls against CSK in the 2015 final at Eden Gardens.
