DRS May 26: Shameful Virat Kohli fans, rape-accused RCB pacer opens up & is Ajinkya Rahane retiring?
The IPL 2026 playoffs start today! The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) play the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala. Amidst the hype, there’s a RCB bowler once again in the news. Yash Dayal, who has been accussed of a couple of crimes, says that the franchise still backs him and he is pretty much available for them. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli fans hit a new low after his decision to ignore Travis Head’s handshake episode went viral.

Is Rahane retiring?
Ajinkya Rahane says captaincy pressure does not bother him, even after KKR missed the playoffs for a second year running. Since taking over from Shreyas Iyer post the 2024 title, KKR finished 8th in 2025 and 7th in 2026. Rahane insists he never thought about stepping down, while adding that showing character during tough times matters the most to him. He claimed pressure is a privilege and that he stayed strong instead of panicking. As a batter his numbers dipped from 390 runs at 147 strike rate in 2025 to 335 runs at 135 in 2026. With KKR buying him for 1.25 crore and Rinku Singh as vice captain, Rahane could be at risk of losing the leadership role after KKR’s unsuccesful season. Read more here.

Rape-accused RCB pacer speaks
Yash Dayal has not played competitive cricket since June 2025 after rape allegations surfaced against him. His former partner accused him of sexual exploitation under the promise of marriage, and a second woman later alleged similar assault over two and a half years starting when she was 17. Dayal was booked under POCSO, and his bail was rejected in Jaipur in December 2025. Despite the cases still ongoing and no guilt proven yet, RCB retained him for IPL 2026 at 5 crore but kept him out of matches. Dayal says the franchise is backing him and stays in touch with Mo Bobat and Dinesh Karthik. Read more here.

Shameful Virat Kohli fans
A heated on-field moment between Virat Kohli and Travis Head during SRH vs RCB in IPL 2026 has spilled off the field. During RCB’s chase of 256, Kohli was seen making an X gesture toward Head, who smirked. Reports say Head told Kohli to play more aggressively. After SRH won by 55 runs, Kohli walked past Head’s handshake attempt and shook Ishan Kishan instead. The clip went viral and Head’s wife, Jessica, said their family and friends faced online abuse from some Virat Kohli fans, similar to the backlash after the 2023 ODI World Cup final. She revealed that the massive abuses could affect her families mental health. Read more here.

IPL upsetting Cricket Australia?
Australian cricket is struggling to balance IPL demands with international duty. Since the 2023 ODI World Cup, Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood have played only one 50 over game together. Coach Andrew McDonald says managing ageing fast bowlers will be the biggest challenge ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Players like Stoinis are skipping central contracts to chase franchise money, and CA knows most stars earn more in one IPL than a full year with Australia. McDonald admits April and May are basically IPL months now. With Starc 37, Hazlewood 36 and Cummins 34 by 2027, workload management is key if they want the trio fit for South Africa. Read more here.

LPL 2026 heads ahead
LPL’s weird new social media rule hasn’t scared anyone off. Ahead of the 2026 season, over 650 overseas players from 21 countries have registered for the draft on June 1. Pakistan leads with 102 entries, then West Indies 75, South Africa 66, Bangladesh 48 and New Zealand 41. Even India has 12 names in the mix. The catch? LPL now makes Instagram followers part of the eligibility. To be an “Icon” you need 75 T20Is, 100 franchise games, 30 matches in 18 months, plus 250k followers. Reputation alone won’t cut it anymore. Only 310 players will make the final draft list for the tournament running from July 17 to Aug 8. Read more here.

SLC announces squads
Sri Lanka have announced squads for their West Indies tour starting June 3. Kusal Mendis will captain the ODIs and T20Is, replacing Charith Asalanka, while Dhananjaya de Silva leads the Test side. Kamindu Mendis is deputy in all three formats. Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana return from injury. The tour opens with 3 ODIs from June 3 to 8, followed by 3 T20Is from June 12 to 15, then 2 Tests starting June 25. Sri Lanka’s Test squad has experience like Dinesh Chandimal and Prabath Jayasuriya with domestic call-ups Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Sonal Dinusha as they chase WTC points. Read more here.
