DRS, May 29: No Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Team India and should Yashasvi Jaiswal move to Mumbai Indians?

No Sooryavanshi in Indian team yet?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is defying logic at 15. He tore apart Pat Cummins in IPL 2026 with 30 off 8 balls, finishing 97 off 29 in a must-win game. The records are piling up and fans now want the BCCI to hand him an India debut in the upcoming Ireland T20Is. But Aakash Chopra says to pump the brakes. Yes, Suryavanshi is special, maybe a once-in-a-century talent. But Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson haven’t done anything wrong since July 2024 and were key to India’s T20 World Cup win. Suryavanshi has 680 runs at 242 SR this IPL, but Chopra argues you don’t make changes for the sake of it. There’s time. He’s got 20 years ahead. Read more here.

Yashasvi Jaiswal to MI?

Yashasvi Jaiswal looks stuck at RR since Vaibhav Suryavanshi arrived. He’s neither attacking nor anchoring. His powerplay SR dropped from 177.4 in 2025 to 161.8 in 2026, and his overall SR since Suryavanshi’s debut ranks 13th among openers with 100+ runs. In the Eliminator he made 19 off 16 while Suryavanshi raced to 60 off 20. Ambati Rayudu thinks Jaiswal needs a move. He’s a star being overshadowed and needs space to win games himself. MI could fit. Rohit might retire soon, Jaiswal has Mumbai domestic ties, and RR won’t give him leadership with Riyan Parag as captain and Suryavanshi stealing the limelight. Read more here.

Gujarat Titans are like SRH?

GT’s formula is simple and it’s worked since 2022. Bowling-friendly pitches at home, a steady top three, skilled seamers, repeat. That gave them the best win record and 4 playoff runs in 5 years. But predictability bites them on flat tracks. Against RCB in Dharamshala, they copped 254 and lost by 92 because their pacers lack variations. Tom Moody, LSG’s Director of Cricket, said GT are like SRH. Lethal on helpful pitches but struggle when surfaces don’t help. Assistant coach Parthiv Patel shrugged it off. Results speak. They finished 2nd and will stick to their process against Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. Read more here.

Chris Gayle on Sooryavanshi!

Chris Gayle used to be the IPL’s “Universe Boss” who made sixes look easy and set records that felt untouchable. But in IPL 2026 a 15-year-old took it further. Vaibhav Suryavanshi carried Rajasthan Royals into Qualifier 2 and, in the Eliminator vs SRH, smashed 65 sixes this season to break Gayle’s 2012 record of 59. Gayle himself gave him props on Instagram: ”What a phenomenal player Vaibhav is. Great entertainment, young man! New Six machine.” Broadcasters even dubbed him “Universal baby boss”. Read more here.

No honey-trap fears in IPL

The BCCI’s “honey-trapping” advisory for IPL 2026 caused a stir after secretary Devajit Saikia warned franchises about security risks and misconduct, including unauthorised people in dugouts, buses and hotels. The word “honey trap” went public and led to online harassment of players’ partners. But IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has now distanced himself, saying he knows of no such incidents. “This is a very clean tournament,” he told. Only avoidable issues he cited were Riyan Parag’s vaping fine and Romi Bhinder’s mobile phone in the RR dugout. Dhumal said he isn’t privy to Saikia’s comments and nothing serious has happened in this edition. BCCI’s new rules still ban unapproved visitors in hotel rooms and restrict dugout access. Jacob Bethell update

Jacob Bethell’s IPL 2026 is over after a left ring finger injury while fielding for RCB against the Punjab Kings on May 17. He played 7 games as Phil Salt’s cover but only managed 27 as his top score. RCB lost him right before playoffs and had to reshuffle their top order. Good news for England though. Scans done Tuesday show he should recover in time for the first Test vs New Zealand at Lord’s on June 4. He’s expected to bat at number three at home for the first time. He was one of England’s bright spots in the Ashes with a Sydney century, so they’ll keep monitoring him but are optimistic. Read more here.
