Predicted PBKS Playing XI vs LSG: Shreyas Iyer to reinforce fast bowling for Playoffs qualification
The Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) season comes down to this. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be the last time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 that Punjab has control of the situation. They flinch, i.e., lose to the LSG, and they’ll be knocked out. They win, and their playoffs qualification hopes will remain alive.
Mathematically, Punjab can finish fourth. Of course, they’ll have to beat LSG first. However, it won’t be easy. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) need to lose their last league match, and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mustn’t have a better net run rate (NRR). To even make this possible, PBKS need to first get things in order.
PBKS to go pace-heavy in Lucknow
For the last few matches, all they’ve done is chop and change. The fast bowling hasn’t clicked. They’ve recycled domestic and foreign pacers. Now, they go to the best venue for fast bowlers in the IPL, Lucknow. Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav, and Mohsin Khan have made life hell for batters at their home, especially in the powerplay. So, PBKS must follow the template.

The starting point should be reintroducing Xavier Bartlett. He’s a new-ball bowler who swings and seams the ball. Although Azmatullah Omarzai can play the role, using him up front actually messes with the balance of the bowling lineup. So, Bartlett should be bowled earlier on, and then Omarzai can be used later on.
Yash Thakur can hit the deck hard and play the enforcer role in the middle. He played for LSG from 2023 to 2024 and knows the surface well. Similarly, Marcus Stoinis should be used, as he too played for LSG from 2022 to 2024. 4 frontline fast bowling options and 2 part-timers should be enough. You can’t forget Yuzvendra Chahal will be available as well.
