Vaibhav Sooryavanshi creates world record at 15, becomes youngest batter to score 500+ runs in a T20 tournament

Rajasthan Royals talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest batter to score over 500 runs in a T20 tournament in the history of the game. The 15-year-old has over 540 runs from just 13 matches, while this is just his second season in the IPL. Sooryavanshi achieved the feat in the game against Lucknow Super Giants, which is a must-win for RR to stay alive in the IPL 2026 playoffs race.

Another feather in the cap for Sooryavanshi

Before the RR vs LSG game in Jaipur on Tuesday, Sooryavanshi needed just 14 runs to become the youngest player to get 500+ runs in any T20 tournament. And, he took just as many deliveries to breach the mark. Vaibhav has also become the first player to score over 500 runs in the IPL before turning 20. Sooryavansh is only the second teenager to go past the 500-run mark in a T20 tournament, with the previous best being Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 580 runs in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the age of 19. When it comes to the IPL, a 20-year-old Rishabh Pant scored 684 runs in IPL 2018 when he was a part of DC.

The 15-year-old narrowly missed out on a well-deserved century, which would have been his 3rd in the IPL, as he was dismissed for 93 runs off 38 balls in the run-chase against LSG. He struck seven fours and ten sixes, at a strike rate of 244.74. Currently, he is the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2026. Sooryavanshi started slowly but picked up pace eventually.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi already has one of the fastest half-centuries of this season. The youngster has been impressive ever since making his debut for RR last year. In his maiden IPL season, he amassed 252 runs from 7 matches, with a highest score of 101, while striking at 206.55. In IPL 2026, he scored a century against SRH, which was studded with 12 sixes and 5 fours. 426 of Sooryavanshi’s runs in this season have come in the powerplay.
