World cricket continues to generate headlines, from England naming their squad for the first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s against India to concerns over Shreyanka Patil’s fitness ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Former India mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton has urged caution over the hype surrounding teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, while Ben Stokes has returned to county cricket despite an ongoing ECB investigation.Also, the BCCI is exploring an earlier window for IPL 2027 to avoid weather-related disruptions.

Blow to Team India

India’s dominant start to the Women’s T20 World Cup has been overshadowed by a worrying injury to Shreyanka Patil, whose participation in the remainder of the tournament is now all but over. The off-spinner twisted her right ankle while fielding during India’s win over the Netherlands and had to be stretchered off the ground after being unable to put any weight on her leg. Having already battled a fractured finger, shin problems and a broken thumb over the last 14 months, the 22-year-old was finally beginning to find rhythm again. With crucial group-stage clashes against South Africa and Australia approaching, India will be anxiously awaiting the scan results and hoping their premier off-spinner avoids another lengthy layoff. IPL 2027 news

The BCCI is considering an earlier window for IPL 2027 to avoid weather disruptions during the business end of the tournament. Secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the board is exploring a March 10 start, allowing the season to finish by May 15 instead of stretching until the end of May. Concerns over extreme heat, pre-monsoon showers and rain interruptions have prompted the discussion. However, despite past talks of expansion, the IPL is unlikely to add more matches, with the current 74-match format expected to remain unchanged. Read more here.

BCCI told to handle Sooryavanshi carefully

Paddy Upton believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s biggest challenge won’t be facing fast bowlers or handling pressure on the field, but coping with fame, expectations and inevitable failures. Following the teenager’s recent altercation during an India A match, the former India mental conditioning coach urged the BCCI to prepare him for setbacks rather than just success. Upton pointed out that Sooryavanshi has enjoyed a remarkable rise so far, but every cricketer eventually goes through lean patches. Read more here.

Ben Stokes to be back?

Ben Stokes is set to return to competitive cricket for Durham despite remaining under investigation by the ECB over the nightclub incident that also involved England teammate Gus Atkinson. The England Test captain, who was left out of the ongoing New Zealand series after breaching the team’s curfew, has been included in Durham’s squad for their County Championship clash against Northamptonshire. While uncertainty remains over his international future and captaincy, Stokes has resumed training and appears keen to move forward, with Durham backing him during the ongoing disciplinary process. Glenn Phillips pushes England back

Glenn Phillips once again proved why he is one of New Zealand’s most valuable utility cricketers, producing a career-best Test century to rescue his side in the second Test against England at The Oval. With Kane Williamson retired and New Zealand struggling at 188/5, Phillips played a blinder with grit and smart shot selection to score his maiden Test hundred. His knock helped the visitors push close to 400 before the bowlers backed it up, reducing England to a vulnerable position. England squad for historic Test

England Women have named a 15-member squad for their historic one-off Test against India at Lord’s, scheduled from July 10 to 13. The match will be the first-ever Women’s Test played at the iconic venue, just days after Lord’s hosts the Women’s T20 World Cup final. Nat Sciver-Brunt will captain the side, with experienced names like Heather Knight, Sophie Ecclestone and Tammy Beaumont returning to the red-ball setup.
