Shreyas Iyer throws Ravi Bishnoi under bus with veiled ‘pinpoint’ dig for loss in ENG vs IND 2nd T20I
India cricket team captain Shreyas Iyer took a veiled dig at Ravi Bishnoi following the side’s 4-wicket loss against England in the ENG vs IND 2nd T20I at the Old Trafford on Saturday. The spinner was the most expensive Indian bowler in the game, conceding 60 runs in his 4 overs at an economy rate of 15. Following the game, Shreyas pointed out that everyone knew where the game was snatched away from India’s hands but refused to blame a single player for the loss. But the message was pretty subtle and evident.
Bishnoi blamed for India’s loss in ENG vs IND 2nd T20I?
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shreyas told Nasser Hussain that everyone was well aware as to when the game went away from India’s hands and said that he refused to pinpoint a player. India’s new T20I captain claimed that the team had performed exceptionally well until the 15th over and that the momentum suddenly shifted in favour of the hosts after that. Powered by Jacob Bethell’s unbeaten 76-run knock off 46 deliveries, ENG chased down the 181-run target with 6 balls to spare.
“I think we all know where it went away, but I don’t want to pinpoint any particular player. The way we were cruising until the 15th over, I think we were doing exceptionally well. And then suddenly the momentum shifted towards them, and from there on, I felt it was a cakewalk for them,” Shreyas Iyer said.
Bishnoi was expensive right from his first over. He was first brought in to bowl in the 4th over where he bowled one no-ball and conceded 11 runs. His 2nd over, which happened to be the final one before the end of the powerplay, was his least expensive (8 runs including one wide and four each). The spinner conceded 12 runs in his third over but had reserved his worst for the last.
In the final over of his spell (the 17th over), Bishnoi conceded a whooping 29 runs off 8 deliveries, single-handedly putting England in the driver’s seat. He bowled two no-balls, conceded three sixes, two doubles and a four, allowing Bethell to race past his half-century. From there on, England needed just 20 runs to win from 18 balls and they managed to do so with utmost ease.

Prior to this game, Ravi Bishnoi last played a T20I for India way back in January. He has picked just 3 wickets in 2 innings this year. In IPL 2026, the spinner featured in just 9 out of 16 matches played by RR, in which he managed to bag 11 scalps. While this sub-par performance prompted the selectors to award him a recall to the T20I setup, it remains to be seen what will be the future course of action after the horror show on Saturday.
